An Unprecedented Effort

The Center for Discovery and Innovation is at the core of an unprecedented effort by Hackensack Meridian Health that will re-establish New Jersey as a national leader in biomedical research and medical education, ultimately leading to profound changes in the delivery of healthcare for patients in New Jersey and beyond. When fully occupied, the Seton Hall-Hackensack Meridian Health Science Campus will represent a truly comprehensive approach to meet the medical challenges of the future.

The campus will house:

  • Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University, New Jersey’s only private school of medicine (see following page)
  • Facilities for advanced biotechnology / biopharma start-ups
  • Commercial mixed-use retail and office space
  • On-site Central Utility Plant with 10 megawatt cogeneration
  • Central Environmental Control Facility
  • Multi-purpose data center
  • Building space suitable for tablet manufacturing

A Dynamic Venue for the Exchanging of Ideas

A dynamic venue for the exchange of ideas, the development of healthcare and research thought leaders and practitioners, and the discovery of novel therapies, the Health Sciences Campus – located on 116 acres in Clifton and Nutley, NJ on the former site of pharmaceutical giant Roche Laboratories – will facilitate medical education, scientific research, and biotechnology start-ups in five modern buildings totaling 1.7 million square feet.

Taken as a whole, our projections for this comprehensive campus include more than 320 new medical/academic positions and 114 administrative jobs, in addition to 430 construction jobs. The Seton Hall-Hackensack Meridian Health Sciences Campus will serve as a catalyst for innovation and growth, drawing biotech, pharma, and start-up companies. The campus will stimulate area businesses, restaurants, and retail. In short, this initiative will be part of the transformation of not only an abandoned site, but of the entire northern New Jersey community, with reverberations spreading far beyond its borders.
